Instagram engagement rate calculator

Type a username or paste a profile link and we'll calculate engagement automatically from recent posts, with a chart of each post and practical tips to raise engagement and sales. The manual calculator is still available if you prefer to enter numbers yourself.

Manual calculator (enter the numbers yourself)

How to use it

  1. Type a username (like @pilotone) or paste the profile link and press “Calculate engagement”.
  2. Review the engagement rate, the per-post chart and the best-performing content type.
  3. Or use the manual calculator: enter followers and total likes and comments (plus saves and shares if available) across several posts.
  4. Enter how many posts you counted, and reach if you have it from Insights.
  5. Press “Calculate” and compare with your previous posts.

How it works

Average engagement per post = (likes + comments + saves + shares) ÷ number of posts.

Engagement rate by followers = average engagement per post ÷ followers × 100.

Engagement rate by reach = average engagement per post ÷ average reach per post × 100 — more precise, because it measures people who actually saw the post.

When you enter a username or profile link, we load the public numbers of recent posts (likes, comments, date and type) through Meta's official Instagram Graph API (Business Discovery) — no login, no scraping.

Averages use the last 12 posts; we chart each post's engagement, compare content types and show weekly posting cadence.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Engagement varies widely by niche, account size and content type, so compare an account with itself over time or with similar accounts.
  • Saves, shares and reach are only visible to the account owner in Insights.
  • Automatic lookup works only for public Business or Creator accounts, and some owners hide like counts.
  • In the manual calculator, numbers stay in your browser and aren't sent to our servers.

Frequently asked questions

Which formula should I use?

Use by-followers to compare different accounts from the outside; use by-reach to judge content quality on your own account, where the data is available.

How many posts should I include?

Ideally your last 9–12 regular posts, excluding paid posts and giveaways that inflate numbers.

Is it useful for evaluating influencers?

As a first signal, yes. Engagement that is unusually high or low compared with similar accounts is a reason to review audience quality and comments.
